$13 Txtr Beagle Ebook Reader To Sell For $69

Nate the greatest writes "Remember that really cheap 5" ereader that everyone was talking about back in October? It turns out that the price was too good to be true. Txtr, maker of the beagle ereader, has confirmed today that the beagle will be coming to the US market in the near future. But it's not going to cost $13. Instead this ereader will cost $69. It seems that txtr isn't having much luck selling the beagle to telecoms (where it was going to be marketed as a smartphone companion device), so they have instead decided to try to sell it in the retail trade, where it will have to directly compete against the Kindle. That is going to be a problem because the beagle is much less capable than the Kindle, even though it costs the same. The beagle won't work without a companion Android app which is needed to transfer files to the beagle over Bluetooth. That app requires Android 4.0 or above."

SXSW: How Emotions Determine Android's Design

Nerval's Lobster writes "At a SXSW panel titled, 'Android's Principles for Designing the Future,' Helena Roeber (who headed up Android's UX research from 2007 through 2012) and Rachel Garb (who leads interaction design for Android apps at Google) discussed the complex philosophy behind Android's design. Roeber went back to the very beginning, recounting Google's Android Baseline Study, in which the team made in-home visits to study how people use technology. 'We saw the profound effect that technological design has on people's lives,' she said. 'Technology had become so pervasive that people had started to schedule and enforce deliberate offline moments to spend time with their family and friends.' From that study, the team learned that users were often overwhelmed by their options and 'limitless flexibility,' leading them to consider how to design a mobile operating system that wouldn't beat those users over the head (at least in the proverbial sense) on a minute-by-minute basis. Instead, they focused on an interface capable of serving features to users only when needed. That meant creating an interface that only interrupts users when needed; that does the 'heavy lifting' of the user's tasks and scheduling; that emphasizes 'real objects' over buttons and menus; and that offers lots of chances for customization. All those elements-- and many more -- eventually ended up in Android's trio of design principles: 'Enchant Me, Simplify My Life, and Make Me Amazing.'"

Patient has 75 percent of his skull replaced with 3D-printed prosthetic

Earlier this week, an un-named man in the United States had 75 percent of his skull replaced with a [3D-printed](http://www.engadget.com/tag/3d%20printer/) plastic prosthetic, the first-known operation of its kind. The transplant was carried out by Oxford Performance Materials, which received approval to carry out such procedures from the US Food and Drug Administration last month. The company crafted the artificial skull based on a 3D scan of the patient's head, and the polyetherketoneketone prosthetic sports holes meant to encourage the growth of new cells and bone. According to the firm, about 500 people in the US could benefit from this technology each month. It's a fascinating implementation of a technology that's better associated with [figurines](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/29/cubify-lets-you-skin-3d-print-your-own-personal-android/) and [animation](http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/08/paranorman-taps-3d-printing/), but here's hoping we never witness the innovation firsthand.

DirecTV Android tablet app knows it's late, makes suitably low-key entrance

We bet you thought your [DirecTV](http://www.engadget.com/tag/directv/) receiver and Android tablet would never get along, didn't ya? Well, it has been over two years since the satellite provider released an [iPad app](http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/28/official-directv-app-for-ipad-now-available-brings-touch-contro/), and although software for both [Android](http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/directv-mobile-app-now-live-on-android-market/) and [Apple](http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/30/directv-iphone-app-now-available/) smartphones were available long before that, Android slates have curiously been neglected. That's all changed now, however, as "DirecTV for Tablets" quietly snuck onto the Play store yesterday. Better late than never, we suppose, and at least it's got the functionality you'd want to make up for its tardiness. The app allows you to use your tablet as a remote, stream various channels (including the Audience Network), manage your [DVR](http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/29/directv-genie-whole-home-dvr-review/), access a bunch of TV-related content, and <strike>over</strike>share your viewing habits on several social networks. Lenovo S920 and S820 leak, could pack Android 4.2.1, quad-core CPUs and dual-SIM slots

[![Lenovo's S920 and S820 leak out in blurrycam shots, could pack Android Jelly Bean, quadcore CPUs and dualSIM slots](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/lenovoandroidjb.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/08/lenovo-s920-s820-leak/)

[Lenovo's](http://www.engadget.com/tag/lenovo/) still far from a boldfaced name when it comes to Android smartphones. Its [Clover Trail+](http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/intel-teases-clover-trail-with-the-atom-z2580/)-packing [K900](http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/lenovo-k900-intel-clover-trail/) aside, the company's mobile focus tends to skew towards the [lower-end](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/lenovo-ideaphone-p770-fits-29-hour-battery-and-jelly-bean/). And so it seems the company's prepping two new Jelly Bean handsets for the Asian market, the purported S920 and S820, judging by a few leaked blurrycam shots over on _MyDrivers.com_. From what we can see, the devices appear to share a similar slim, rounded edge design language with a rear-facing camera protruding prominently on back. According to the rumored specs, both are tipped to rely on MediaTek's [quad-core ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/11/mediatek-launches-worlds-first-quad-core-cortex-a7-soc-we-go-h/)[Cortex-A7](http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/20/arm-unveils-cortex-a7-processor-big-little-computing/)[ SoC](http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/11/mediatek-launches-worlds-first-quad-core-cortex-a7-soc-we-go-h/), include dual-SIM support and run Android 4.2.1 (skinned, of course). It's not clear what resolution Lenovo has in store for the phones, but if the S920's 5.3-inch screen size proves true, it's likely to be of the 720p variety. The S820 is more of an unknown, but the Chinese site maintains it's meant for a more fashionable, female demo. Here's to hoping it launches with a charm dongle. Magisto adds still photos to its AI video editing witchery (video)

Short of serving the popcorn, [Magisto's](http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/20/magisto-edits-videos-automagically-deluges-the-interwebs-with-i/) editing app can take care of the video production needs for the busy (or artistically challenged), including helping with music choices, chopping it all together and even distributing it across [video albums](http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/magisto-sharpens-its-ai-video-editing-algorithm-adds-themes/). However, one sorely lacking feature was the ability to include photos, which the developer has just rectified in its latest update with a "smart photo feature." After you pick your images, the system's algorithms "choose the most compelling moments within the pictures and videos, and automatically marry them in a narrative format," according to Magisto -- even matching photo and video subject matter via AI. From there, it'll add graphical themes, music and transitions to fill out the movie while you tend to more pressing matters. The iOS version is now at the App Store with an Android release arriving shortly, and the company said it'll soon add morphing, image foreground / background separation and other effects. If you want more than the five images the freebie version offers, you'll need to pay $18 a year for the premium app -- but all that extra free time should let you go earn the bucks to pay it off.

Cambridge Consultants develops indoor tech to pick up where GPS drops off

[Indoor navigation](http://engadget.com/tag/indoormaps) isn't a new concept, but it often requires [wireless signals](http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/21/google-files-for-a-patent-on-peer-to-peer-location-finding/) or [custom infrastructure](http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/29/google-maps-6-0-hits-android-adds-indoor-navigation-for-retail/), neither of which are entirely reliable. [Cambridge Consultants](http://engadget.com/tag/cambridgeconsultants) has come up with an as-yet-unnamed technology that purports to solve the issue by utilizing low-power sensors along with a custom formula that don't require an existing framework. According to the Cambridge, UK-based company, all you need are its special Bayesian algorithm and run-of-the-mill smartphone components like accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers to do the job. It has already built a concept chipset (seen above) that could be embedded in existing devices -- you can either map your location directly on it or send that info off to a remote system. The firm says the technology will be useful for firefighters and hospital workers, though we wouldn't complain if it's implemented in [trade shows](http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/08/google-maps-indoor-navigation-las-vegas-ces-2012/) either. With today's introduction of its new Mobile Photo BillPay feature, the company's giving customers using an iOS or Android device yet another nifty tool to take advantage of while on the go -- one that's set to make it easy to set up bill payments by simply taking a shot of any invoice and uploading it to an account from within the app. The experience itself is rather similar to what we're accustomed to seeing when doing things like, say, [depositing checks](http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/10/usaas-deposit-mobile-app-puts-check-deposits-a-mug-shot-away/), and US Bank's quick to point out that it's one of the first major banks in the US to bring a mobile bill-paying solution to its users. Speaking of which, US Bank account holders can try out BillPay now -- links to download from Google Play and the App Store are after the break.

Motorola workforce to drop by 10 percent, cuts being made in US, China and India

[![](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/motorolaphone.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/08/motorola-workforce-to-drop-by-10-percent/)

Google's [Motorola](http://www.engadget.com/tag/MotorolaMobility/) unit seems to be facing some hard times -- according to an email acquired by the _Wall Street Journal_, up to ten percent of the division's workforce is facing layoffs. "While we're very optimistic about the new products in our pipeline, we still face challenges," explained the email. High costs and losses in competitive markets are forcing the company to make staffing cuts. "These cuts are a continuation of the reductions we announced last summer," a spokesman told the _WSJ_. "It's obviously very hard for the employees concerned and we're committed to helping them through this difficult transition. Much like the company's [August staff reduction](http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/13/motorola-to-cut-workforce-by-20-percent/?m=false), the new layoffs will effect workers in China, India and the US, reducing the team by about 1,200 employees overall. It's a rocky start to the season, but one the company deems necessary to get it through the [next generation](http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/21/motorola-x-phone-x-tablet-rumor-android-smartphone/) of mobile devices. Hopefully it has something in store with enough ["wow" factor](http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/28/google-cfo-says-the-motorola-pipeline-doesnt-wow/) to stave off future cuts.

Zotac's StreamBox and RAIDbox build upon the ZBOX's HTPC pedigree

Zotac has this media-friendly SFF computer thing pretty much nailed. For years the company has been churning out ever [smaller](http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/zotacs-zbox-nano-vd01-packs-dual-core-via-cpu-in-a-tiny-tiny-b/) machines purpose built for living rooms and media servers. The StreamBox and RAIDbox aren't standalone computers, but accessories that build on the home theater capabilities of their [ZBOX](http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/zotac-zbox-id83-id42/) PCs. The StreamBox pushes content to your TV from a laptop, Android smartphone or tablet using DLNA or [Miracast](http://www.engadget.com/tag/miracast) for mirroring your portable's display. In addition to the 10/100 Ethernet jack and dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n radios, there's also a USB port on board for connecting external storage devices. What kind of storage devices, you ask? Well, how about the USB 3.0 RAIDbox that was unveiled alongside the StreamBox. The box itself doesn't ship with any drives inside, but you can slip in a pair of mSATA SSDs and it wont even require an external power supply. Sadly, the really important details like price and availability haven't been announced, but you can still read the PR after the break.

Incredimail launches for iPad with a photo inbox and built-in browser

Many of us whose parents discovered the internet in the past decade are all too familiar with Incredimail, mostly through the excessively cute stationery that would come attached to virtually every message. It's time to shake some of those old preconceptions now that an iPad version is here. The tablet port has stationery for anyone who craves it, but it's more focused on becoming a one-stop shop for everything associated with communication: it centers on a unified inbox for [IMAP](http://www.engadget.com/tag/IMAP/)-based email accounts (POP3 soon) that shows quick peeks of both mail and any included links. Users won't have to leave the app at all for a few common non-messaging tasks. There's both an integrated web browser as well as a photo inbox that currently shows Facebook images, with plans to support Flickr, Instagram and Picasa in the long run. Those on Android devices or the iPhone will have to wait for their eventual turns at Incredimail, but everyone using Apple's tablet can give it a whirl today, for free -- even if they have no intentions of sending messages that could be confused with greeting cards.

Today is the day for Jelly Bean updates on older carrier-branded devices, apparently. In this round, it's the Verizon-branded [Motorola Droid RAZR](http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/motorola-droid-razr-review/) and [RAZR Maxx](http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/31/motorola-droid-razr-maxx-review/) that have the honor of being bestowed with Google Now, expanded notifications and the rest of everything Android 4.1 has to offer. The rollout will take place in phases, so don't be terribly concerned if you don't see the update showing up on your device right away. We haven't had the chance to play with it yet, but soak tests seemed to indicate that much of the Droid-related bloatware has been removed in favor of several stock Google apps; if you get the update, let us know in the comments if this is the case.

Android In Space: STRaND-1 Satellite To Activate Nexus One

An anonymous reader writes "In as little as a few days, the British-made Surrey Training, Research, and Nanosatellite Demonstrator (STRaND-1) satellite will begin transitioning its key systems over to a completely stock Android Nexus One smartphone that's been bolted to the bottom of it. The mission is designed to test the endurance of off-the-shelf consumer hardware, and to validate Android as a viable platform for controlling low-cost spacecraft. STRaND-1 managed to beat NASA's own 'PhoneSat' mission to the punch, which will see a Nexus One and Nexus S launched into space aboard the April test flight of the Orbital Sciences Antares commercial launch vehicle, the prime competitor to SpaceX's Falcon 9."

If you're the type to eschew the [weather report](http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/18/weather-channel-for-android-gets-tablet-optimization/) on your smartphone and just, you know, _open the window _instead, the Thermodo sensor and app that just launched on Kickstarter may be for you. The petite device inserts into (and draws power from) the audio jack of your iOS or Android handset / tab, measures the exterior or interior air temperature, then sends a corresponding audio signal to the mic input on your device. The companion app, along with developer Robocat's [Haze](http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/15/haze-for-ios/) and Thermo apps, interprets that signal and displays the temperature on your device -- or you can develop your own with the outfit's open source SDK. The project is now live on Kickstarter where a minimum $19 bid will get you one in black, with the company looking for $35k total for the tooling and materials needed to build them. You can scoot over to the video after the break for more, or check the source to grab one.

ASUS Transformer AiO launching Q2 for $1, 299 and up, marries Windows 8 desktop with monster Android tablet

[![ASUS Transformer AiO launching Q2 for $1,299 and up, marries Windows 8 desktop with monster Android tablet](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/transformeraio.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/07/asus-transformer-aio/)

We were beginning to think the ASUS Transformer AiO was just a figment of a summer daydream after hearing nothing of it since our [chance look](http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/04/asus-transformer-aio/) many months ago. As it turns out, we were right about the [furtive FCC filing](http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/27/asus-p1801-t-fcc/) last December, and with all that paperwork in order, we've now been granted a formal introduction. The Transformer AiO (all-in-one) is very true to its name, as like the Autobots, it has two completely different configurations. In desktop mode, you're looking at a Windows 8 machine running on a Core i3 / i5 / i7, with a 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT730M GPU, between 4 and 8GB of RAM, and up to a 2TB SATA HDD. It also has DVD-RW optical drive (can you believe it?), a card reader, a bunch of ports and even a TV Tuner should you want one. Being a [Windows 8](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/30/windows-8-review/) rig, it's not surprising that the 18.4-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 IPS display has ten-point multitouch, but it gets even more interesting when you free that screen from its desktop restraints.

Popping it from the dock means you're now looking at a monster tablet with its own internal specs: a quad-core Tegra 3, 2 gigs of RAM and 32GB of flash storage. If you're in the mood to continue peering at Redmond's squares, it'll work as a remote terminal for the "PC Station." But, if you've got a sweet tooth, you can switch the slate to Android mode and knock around in [4.1 Jelly Bean](http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/android-4-1-jelly-bean-review-a-look-at-whats-changed-in-googl/). The Transformer AiO (P1801) is expected to be available in North America early second quarter at $1,299 for the basic model, which doesn't sound all that extortionate given the versatility of the desktop-come-tablet. Head to the source link for the full spec sheet, or check out the video below if you want something a bit more visual.

Box Windows Phone, Windows 8 apps get new features, including file previews and more

[![Box Windows Phone, Windows 8 apps get new features, including file previews and more](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/boxwin36-1362600214.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/07/box-windows-8-windows-phone-apps-update/)

[Box](http://www.engadget.com/tag/Box/) has done a pretty decent job at bringing [novel features](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/11/box-cloud-platform-new-features/) to its apps on the various platforms they are present in, and today it's turn for a couple of Microsoft's properties to get some fresh tidbits from the cloud storage service. For starters, both of [Box's Windows Phone](http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/24/box-application-now-on-windows-phone/) and Windows 8 applications will now have the ability to see easily preview files (Box says more than 75 types) -- a feature that's been [available on Android](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/15/box-for-android-update/) since late last year, and one that'll surely come in handy to Redmond's user base. Additionally, Box also announced a few platform-specific goodies, with the [Windows 8](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/30/windows-8-review/) app seeing the addition of a new navigation bar for quick access to docs, while the Windows Phone equivalent nabbed a revamped wide cycle tile which allows for updates to be viewed via its own Live Tile (so long as it's the largest size). These changes are live now, so check' em out and give 'em a whirl the next time you open your <strike>Box</strike> app.

Path 3 adds private messaging and stickers, much like your 5th grade binder

[![Path 3 adds private messaging and stickers like your 5th grade yearbook](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/path-3.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/07/path-3-adds-private-messaging-and-stickers/)

[Path](http://www.engadget.com/tag/Path/) hasn't held the same grip on social networkers as Facebook or Twitter, in part because it's almost too social -- you can't really control which friends (or friends of friends) see a post. The solution in Path 3.0? Recreate your [Trapper Keeper](http://www.engadget.com/tag/TrapperKeeper/) from grade school, apparently. Along with introducing a much-appreciated private messaging system that lets two or more friends share text, maps, media and voice messages, the update lets us slap expressive stickers into the conversation when a basic emoticon just won't do. Of course, that's also how Path hopes to get a few extra bucks: two sticker packs come free, while others lurk in the same shop as custom photo filters. If you just have to tell buddies that Stacey was soooooo gross in chemistry class, you can get Path 3.0 today on iOS, and shortly on Android.

Nexus 7 dock reaches the Google Play Store: also, unicorns are real

The official [Nexus 7 dock](http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/asus-nexus-7-dock/) has been one of the more elusive beasts in the accessory world, especially for anyone who wanted it from an official source. Google just brought that months-long pursuit to a close -- the dock is now sitting in the Google Play Store. So long as you have $30 to spend and can endure up to one or two weeks of waiting, you too can give your [Nexus 7](http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/nexus-7-review/) an ASUS-designed home with both micro-USB and audio line out. Just don't try to overcompensate by buying docks en masse; Google caps the order limit at two.

ComScore: Apple strengthens lead as top US handset maker in early 2013, Android takes a small hit

[![DNP ComScore Apple ](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/lead.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/06/comscore-apple-top-us-handset-maker-early-2013/)

The latest numbers from ComScore show [Apple](http://www.engadget.com/topics/apple/) strengthening its lead as the top US handset maker, with the [iPhone](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/apple-iphone-5-review/) nabbing an estimated 37.8 percent of the market as of January 2013. That's a 3.5-point boost from [October](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/02/comscore-iphone-moved-up-to-34-percent-us-share-in-august/) of last year, putting healthy distance between Cupertino and the number-two smartphone maker, [Samsung](http://www.engadget.com/tag/samsung/). That's not to say the Korean giant hasn't grown as well; its estimated 21.4-percent slice of the pie is up a more modest 1.9 points.

Apple's growth on the hardware front naturally has implications on the software side, and indeed this is the first time Android took a hit while iOS grew. According to the survey, Google's OS still maintains a healthy 52.3 percent compared to Apple's 37.8, but it's down 1.3 points while iOS saw a small boost. Where does that leave BlackBerry, Windows Phone and the rest of the gang? _Pretty_ far behind -- as you can see for yourself in the chart below the break.

Twitter update improves search on mobile and web, enhances autocomplete and web browsing for iOS

[![Twitter update improves search queries on mobile and web, enhances autocomplete and web browsing experience for iOS](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/twitterupdate.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/06/twitter-update-improves-search/)[Twitter's](http://www.engadget.com/tag/twitter/) just announced an update for its Android and iOS apps and mobile site aimed to help users locate desired tweets with ease. Now, search queries for specific keywords will turn up a "Top Tweet" -- a result the company claims is more closely "based on relevance and engagement" -- and an option to "View more from this time" period. But that's not the only tweak Twitter's ushering in. iOS users will now be privy to a better autocomplete experience, in addition to a new web browser view that tacks linked tweets to the bottom of the page. The update's live now, so you can go ahead and grab it from the source or just sit back and wait for it to hit your device.

Next Issue Media reaches Windows 8, puts subscriptions on your Surface (video)

[Next Issue Media's](http://www.engadget.com/tag/NextIssueMedia/) unlimited magazine subscriptions have had a solid footing on Android tablets and iPads, but Windows tablet owners have faced the prospect of subscribing to one magazine [at a time](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/14/nook-app-comes-to-windows-8-with-clean-paper-like-design/) -- the horror. They can rest a little easier knowing that Next Issue's reader app is now available for Windows 8 in the US. The software makes the expected leap to the modern Windows UI, and goes the extra mile to use native tricks such as the optimized multitasking view and pinning favorite magazines to the Start screen. Readers will still need to pay a monthly rate of either $10 (for slower publications) or $15 (including weekly titles) to get full access; when the app itself is free to try for a month, though, it won't hurt to give Next Issue a spin on that [Surface Pro](http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/05/microsoft-surface-pro-review/).

Galaxy S III bug disables lock screen, grants full access, tests patience

[![Galaxy S III bug disables lock screen, grants full access, tests patience](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/03/dsc1521.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/06/galaxy-s-iii-bug-disables-lock-screen/)

Lock screens are around for a reason: to keep people from getting where they shouldn't. They aren't always infallible, though, and a few weeks ago, we saw a [vulnerability](http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/14/ios-lock-screen-hack/) in several builds of iOS 6 that granted access to the phone module without a passcode. Then, a couple of days ago, we reported on a Galaxy Note II bug that allows the quick-fingered to launch anything immediately behind the lock screen. Now, a similar flaw has been found on the [Galaxy S III](http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/25/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-review/) that breaks the lock screen altogether, permitting full use of the phone. To replicate the bug, you'll need to tap the "Emergency Call" button on the lock screen, then go into the ICE (emergency contacts) menu. From there, press the home button, followed quickly by the power button, and that's it. If successful, pressing the power button again will bring up the home screen straight away, and what's more, the lock screen won't return until the handset is restarted. Sounds worryingly simple, right? In our experience, not so much.

We first tried this method on an S III running Android 4.0.4 ICS, and a [Note II](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/08/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-review/) for good measure, but to no avail. Then, we had a crack at an S III running 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, and were close to giving up trying to replicate it when _voila_, it worked. We hoped to provide you with a video of the bug, but it must be camera shy. Despite literally hundreds of attempts in front of the lens and several more behind it, we've only managed it once -- we found it impossible to nail down the correct timing between the home and power button pushes. Samsung's likely aware of the bug already and when quizzed about the [Note II vulnerability](http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/04/galaxy-note-ii-homescreen-lock-vulnerability/), said a fix for lock screen issues on affected "Galaxy devices" was in the works (read: they didn't say the Note II specifically). We've reached out for comment just to be sure, but until a patch is provided, keep your phone concealed from nosey types who read tech sites and have saint-like patience.
