Lenovo A586 touts voice unlock through Baidu, A*STAR verification tech

[![Lenovo A586 touts voice unlock through Baidu, ASTAR](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/lenovo-a586.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/01/lenovo-a586-touts-voice-unlock-through-baidu-astar/)

Attempts to get away from unlocking our smartphones through codes and finger swipes have mostly centered on camera tricks like Android's [Face Unlock](http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/01/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-review/#lock). If you happen to pick up a Lenovo [IdeaPhone](http://www.engadget.com/tag/IdeaPhone/) A586 when it reaches China on December 12th, you'll have the option to use some dulcet tones instead. The Android smartphone builds in a new speaker verification system from [Baidu](http://www.engadget.com/tag/Baidu/) and [A*STAR's](http://www.engadget.com/tag/astar/) Institute for Infocomm Research that looks for a specific voice signature: speak a distinct passphrase and the phone unlocks without gestures or a longing stare. Few will be especially smitten with the 4.5-inch, 854 x 480 display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 5-megapixel camera or 4GB of storage, but they'll be glad to get access to their A586 in a more hands-off (and hopefully spoof-resistant) way. We'd only be worried about choosing a passphrase that won't trigger odd looks from passers-by.

ASUS Qube with Google TV pops up at the FCC

[![ASUS Qube dongle for Google TV pops up at the FCC](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/asus-qube-fcc.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/30/asus-qube-dongle-for-google-tv-pops-up-at-the-fcc/)

Despite its crucial role in the [Android ecosystem](http://www.engadget.com/tag/asus,android/), ASUS hasn't taken the plunge on Google TV so far. An FCC approval for a new adapter, the Qube, suggests that reticence is coming to a quick halt -- and in an uncommon way. Rather than build a full [media hub](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/19/vizio-co-star-review/), ASUS appears to be crafting a possibly [Roku-like](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/20/roku-streaming-stick-details-vudu/) dongle that would graft Google TV on to a host device through USB. The Qube's components aren't outlined in earnest, but it would pair up with an RF-based keyboard and touchpad for its main input.

Some details may have been given away through Google Play listings for O!Mobile Control Center and Remote apps linked to the Qube -- they hint that ASUS could use the same [Marvell Armada](http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/05/google-tv-officially-switching-to-arm-marvell-armada-1500-cpu-t/) processors that power modern Google TV boxes, as well as extend smartphone control beyond what Google's official remote app can offer (we tried it with an existing Google TV unit and it wouldn't connect.) At this moment, we're less curious about when and where the Qube releases than how it will sell; its dependence could see it destined for an equipment bundle instead of sitting on shelves by its lonesome. We're asking around for possible details and will let you know if we hear more.

HTC One VX to be available on AT&T by December 7th

The [HTC One VX](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/04/dnp-htc-one-vx-for-atandt-hands-on-mid-range-style-on-a-budget/) was slated to arrive on [November 16th](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/12/htcs-one-x-and-one-vx-set-to-arrive-on-atandt-november-16th/) alongside its bigger brother, the [HTC One X+](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/31/htc-one-x-plus-review/), but when the time came, only the latter showed up -- the mid-range HTC handset just seemed to have mysteriously disappeared. After a couple of weeks, it seems the phone will finally be in store shelves starting December 7th: "Yes, we expect to be fully stocked in all channels by 12/7," said an AT&T spokesperson to us. So if you want to snag the VX with its 4.5-inch qHD display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 5-megapixel camera and 4G LTE speeds for just $50 under contract, feel free to mark the date on your calendar. ComScore: Android's US share kept growing in October, Apple passed LG in all cellphones

[![ComScore Android's US market share kept growing in October, Apple passes LG in all cellphones](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/comscore-nov-2012-1.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/30/comscore-android-us-market-share-kept-growing-in-october/)

We've [been wondering](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/02/comscore-us-smartphone-share-leveled-off-in-september/) how much the first full month of [iPhone 5](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/apple-iphone-5-review/) sales would skew US market share in October. The answer is... not much, if you ask [ComScore](http://www.engadget.com/tag/ComScore/). Android kept growing to 53.6 percent of American smartphones on the back of the [Droid RAZR M](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/motorola-droid-razr-m-review-a-very-good-ics-handset-in-a-small/), [Galaxy Note II](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/08/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-review/) and other devices, but the iPhone's market share just managed to remain steady at the same 34.3 percent as in September. Apple could mostly be glad that it wasn't in the position of its older rivals: the BlackBerry dipped below 8 percent share, while the wait for a [Windows Phone 8 turnaround](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/28/microsoft-selling-four-times-as-many-windows-phones-as-last-year/) may have triggered a sharp drop in Microsoft's stake to 3.2 percent.

There was a symbolic (if anticipated) changing of the guard for the wider American market, however. After months of closing in, Apple just barely edged out LG to become the second-largest cellphone maker of any kind on the US stage at 17.8 percent. A familiar scenario elsewhere kept Samsung once again on top at 26.3 percent, while Motorola and HTC remained on a downward slide. We'll be keeping a close eye on how the November results alter the status quo -- between Windows Phone, LG's [Optimus G](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/19/lg-optimus-g-review-a-quad-core-powerhouse-with-nexus-aspiratio/) and a [cavalcade](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/16/psa-asus-htc-samsung-novatel-at-att/) of [multi-device launches](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/t-mobile-unveils-holiday-lineup-nexus-4-htc-8x-lumia-810-to-l/), there's been potential for more than one tidal shift in the mobile world in the past few weeks.

Well, [Photo Sync](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/20/facebook-photo-auto-upload-feature-on-ios/) has your name all over it. Rolling out today for Android and iOS, the new service automatically sends images from your smartphone (or [Galaxy Camera](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/samsung-galaxy-camera/), perhaps?) to a private album in the cloud. Once you're ready to flip your frames public, simply tick a box on each image to post it. Ouya dev consoles shipping to backers on December 28th, SDK available same day

[![Ouya dev consoles shipping to backers on December 28th, SDK available same day](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/ouyaprototypedevkit620pxhedimg.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/30/ouya-dev-kit-release-date/)

Developer kits for the [Ouya](http://www.engadget.com/tag/ouya) were given a ship date of December 28th today, alongside news that the system's software development kit ("ODK") will be available that same day. In case it wasn't already clear how small the Android-powered console is, the folks at Ouya included the picture you see above to further illustrate that point -- the thing is _really_ small. Ouya expects the dev kits to get into backers' hands "within a couple day" of the 28th. How different are these dev units from the final run, though? Not that different, we'd guess, considering the company's continued promise that "every Ouya will be a dev console." The only hint given of their difference is a note in today's update calling them, "pretty special." Beyond just getting a jump on game development with the Ouya in mind, dev unit buyers will also be the first to try out Jelly Bean gaming. Of course, if you're a dev unit-level backer and you'd like to share your thoughts with us, [we're all ears](mailto:tips@engadget.com?subject=Ouya dev unit).

Firefox for Android, Now With Video That 'Just Works'

After years of resisting the royalty and licensing-encumbered H.264 video codec, Mozilla has thrown in the towel, enabling H.264 video in Firefox for Android. Eventually the company plans to add H.264 support to desktop Firefox as well.

If this is the _new_ [Motorola](http://www.engadget.com/tag/Motorola/), then we have to say we're fast becoming fans. Hot on the heels of the [Droid RAZR M's](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/motorola-droid-razr-m-review-a-very-good-ics-handset-in-a-small/) [recent Jelly Bean update](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/09/verizon-droid-razr-m-jelly-bean-update/), comes word that [Android 4.1](http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/android-4-1-jelly-bean-review-a-look-at-whats-changed-in-googl/) will indeed be rolling out to the [Droid RAZR HD and RAZR Maxx HD](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/19/droid-razr-hd-and-razr-maxx-hd-review/) in December. Announced as an update on Verizon's site, the OTA is said to arrive "in phases starting next week," bringing with it the eerily prescient Google Now and ISIS compatibility. So, until then, you can hold off from manually (and obsessively) refreshing that system update setting.

Why Microsoft's Surface Pro Could Fail

Nerval's Lobster writes "Microsoft's Surface Pro boasts one feature that could rapidly become an Achilles Heel, especially if Microsoft intends for the device to compete against Apple's iPad and a host of lightweight Google Android touch-screens. In a Nov. 29 Tweet to a customer, the official Surface Twitter feed claimed: 'We expect it [Surface Pro] to have approx. half the battery life of Surface with Windows RT.' That means Surface Pro will have roughly four hours of battery life. That's roughly half the battery life (if not less) of Apple's various iPads, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Research In Motion's PlayBook, Hewlett-Packard's now-cancelled TouchPad, and Motorola's all-but-forgotten Xoom. In other words, pretty much every tablet currently on the market. Nor can the Surface Pro compete with other tablets on price. The 64GB version of the device will retail for $899, with the 128GB version coming in a little higher at $999."

Raspberry Pi's $25 Model A enters production, could be in tinkerers' projects early next year

[Raspberry Pi](http://www.engadget.com/tag/raspberry%20pi/)'s Model B computer will be no stranger to regular readers. We've seen it [turn up](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/13/supercomputer-built-from-raspberry-pi-and-lego/) in [all sorts](http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/13/adafruit-light-painting-raspberry-pi-guide/) of projects, and generally stretched in [various directions](http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/01/raspberry-pi-android-ice-cream-sandwich/). If you were holding out for the cheaper, lower specced Model A however, your time is near. A recent post on the official Raspberry Pi site confirms that the first Model A samples are rolling off the production line. The main differences? Whereas Model B has two USB ports and 512 MB of RAM plus Ethernet, Model A sports only the one port, has half the RAM, and no Ethernet connection, making it more power economical as well as $10 cheaper. Price likely isn't the issue here, but if you were after the _even more_ stripped back version, it's estimated they'll be ready to purchase online early next year.

[Next Issue](http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/18/next-issue-media-brings-magazine-subscriptions-to-samsung-galaxy/) -- the service unofficially billed as [the Netflix of digital magazines](http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/10/next-issue-media-ipad-app/) -- has just announced an expansion of its catalog, adding eight additional titles to its tablet-based offering. This recent inclusion of big names brings the company's impressive library to a total of 80 even, letting iPad users now peruse the likes of _New York Magazine_, _Food & Wine_ and _Men's Fitness, _just to name a few. Pricing for both Unlimited subscription tiers remains unchanged, with $10/mo still netting users access to 73 monthly and bi-weekly titles, while the more premium $15/mo service opens up the entire archive. As of now, these new additions won't work on [Android slates](http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/04/next-issue-media-launches-android-honeycomb-newstand-app/), but the company promises "work is underway" to make them available across the board. Microsoft brought its [SmartGlass](http://www.engadget.com/tag/smartglass/) Xbox 360 second screen app [to Android last month](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/26/xbox-smartglass-now-available-for-android/), however official support was limited to smartphones. While many found that sideloading got the app running on their other devices, an update today has officially added support for tablets of the 7-inch variety. There's also fixes for specific crashes tied to the achievements and settings screens, but not much else. Kongregate breaks free of the browser, serves up downloadable games

![Kongregate breaks free of the browser, serves up downloadable games](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/kongregate-downloadable-game-1354239862.jpg)

[Kongregate](http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/25/kongregate-makes-triumphant-return-to-android-market-after-a-few/) has stepped out of its web browser boundaries by offering free-to-play downloadable desktop games alongside its existing catalog of browser-based titles. Only _Super Monday Night Combat_, _Smashmuck Champions_ and _Bomb Buddies_ are available for desktop play, but the outfit is set to beef up its selection in the following weeks. It's not likely that this development will cause Steam to nervously eye its rearview mirror for a competitor on its coattails, but it's interesting to see [GameStop's](http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/08/gamestop-ceo-paul-raines-talks-tablets-OUYA-MVNO/) F2P game venture ever so slightly dip its toes into Valve's territory. However, [Gabe Newell's](http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/26/windows-8-catastrophe/) platform may yet have some [fiercer competition](http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/01/gamestop-details-plans-for-impulse-and-spawn-labs-says-its-be/) in the brick-and-mortar retailer's [Impulse](http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/01/gamestop-snaps-up-spawn-labs-impulse-game-distribution-platform/) storefront. Redbox Instant pricing, apps and service details revealed by support site

[![Redbox Instant pricing, apps and service details revealed by support site](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/redbox-instant-android-ios-screens-gigaom.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/29/redbox-instant-details/)

Details about the still-in-alpha [Redbox Instant](http://www.engadget.com/tag/redboxinstant/) internet movie service have suddenly become more clear, as _GigaOm_ dug up a link to support pages (apparently now password protected) that show off service prices and even screenshots of the website and apps. As noted there, any of this could change before it rolls out to the public, but they show off an unlimited subscription that goes for $6 per month, with a smaller catalog than what Netflix offers, but with recent flicks like Iron Man 2 and Thor. For $8 ($2 more) per month, customers add credits for four DVD rentals each month (no rollover), while video on-demand access to movies starts at $0.99 and goes up. In a disappointing move for Linux users, it appears [Redbox](http://www.engadget.com/tag/redbox/) and Verizon have selected [Silverlight for the web player just like Netflix](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/17/netflix-finally-comes-to-linux-sort-of/), instead of Flash like Amazon's Instant Video. Currently, Android, iOS, Xbox 360 and Samsung's Smart TV platform are on deck for apps (check out more screens at the source link) and the page suggests that [public launch](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/25/redbox-instant-targets-launch-by-year-end-blends-subscription-s/) could come December 17th. Assuming these details hold up, is this enough to pull you away from Netflix / Amazon Prime / Hulu Plus, or maybe add-on another subscription to the pile?

Humble Bundle teams with THQ for Darksiders, Metro 2033, Saints Row: The Third on the cheap

THQ may not be an "[indie](http://www.engadget.com/tag/humbleindiebundle/)" or tied to [Android](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/08/humble-android-bundle-4/), but the ailing game publisher is teaming with the much beloved [Humble Bundle](http://www.engadget.com/tag/humblebundle/) folks to offer a flexibly priced batch of great THQ games. Zelda-alike _Darksiders_, spooky shooter _Metro 2033_, destruction sandbox _Red Faction: Armageddon_, and the entire _Company of Heroes_ pack highlight the bundle's standards, while 2011's greatest Kanye simulator, _Saints Row: The Third_, comes with the rest should you choose to spend over the average payment price (currently around $5). You'll have to drop at least $1 for Steam keys to the main titles, but that'll also net you soundtracks to those main titles as well -- sadly, the offer is only available on PC. You've got two weeks to make your decision, though we'd call this a no brainer.

Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean binaries added to AOSP

Barely a fortnight after the Android 4.2 binaries were [added](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/13/android-4-2-jelly-bean-binaries-added-to-aosp/) to the Android Open Source Project database, here comes Android 4.2.1. It appears as if the files have been uploaded for the [Nexus 10](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/02/nexus-10-review/), [Nexus 7](http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/nexus-7-review/), Galaxy Nexus (Verizon model included), but the [Nexus 4](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/02/nexus-4-review/) is being omitted for the time being. In short, this opens the doors for custom ROM makers to dig in and update their own wares with the latest and greatest from Google. And come December, the users of those wares will be [hugely appreciative](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/google-hustles-android-4-2-1-onto-nexus-devices/) of that extra 0.1. Google Maps Navigation for Android comes to Mexico

[![Google Maps Navigation comes to Mexico](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/google-maps-navigation-mexico-1354201965.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/29/google-maps-navigation-comes-to-mexico/)

For the past few months, [Mexico](http://www.engadget.com/tag/Mexico/) has been sitting in limbo as far as Google's mapping services were concerned: you could see [Mayan ruins in Street View](http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/17/google-street-view-expands-to-cover-swaths-of-brazil-and-mexico/), but you couldn't get directions to them from your phone. Google has redressed that balance now that [Google Maps Navigation](http://www.engadget.com/tag/GoogleMapsNavigation/) is reaching the country. Anyone with an updated version of Google Maps on Android can get turn-by-turn directions, traffic and nearby points of interest as they cruise towards Veracruz. Mass transit navigation appears to be the lone (if glaring) omission for Mexican use. While we'd like all mapping options to be available, it's good to know that drivers can more smoothly cross the vast expanses of Mexico City.

[Thanks, Luis]

Samsung Galaxy S III mini review: a small Galaxy with few stars

[![Samsung Galaxy S III mini review: a small Galaxy with few stars](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/jt2012-11-2621-01-06600.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/29/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-mini-review/)

Samsung made a bold move when it [announced the Galaxy S III mini](http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/11/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-mini-launch/). Here was an Android phone with the potential to take the iPhone 5 head-on. While the original [Galaxy S III](http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/25/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-review/) is clearly the flagship, its 4.8-inch display means it's literally too much for some people to handle. By matching Apple's screen size inch for inch, it could have been pitched as a device aimed at winning over some iOS fence-sitters. However, when you look at the specifications: a dual-core 1GHz processor, WVGA (800 x 480) display and a 5-megapixel camera, it's clear that Samsung had other ideas, opting to fish for a more mid-range customer instead.

Fast forward to the present, and it's no longer a matter of intellectual debate as to what the mini is all about: the phone is here, and on sale in much of Europe for £299 / €379. So hubris, brand appeal and pundit talk aside, is this the real-deal Galaxy S III, just for smaller hands? Or is it a budget phone simply wearing its elder sibling's tuxedo to the ball? We spent some time getting to know the phone in an attempt to find out.

Scanadu's Scout tricorder and companion app detect what ails you, arrive in 2013 for $150

[![Scanadu's Scout tricorder and companion app detect what ails you, arrive in 2013 for $150](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/livedsc037362.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/29/scanadu-scout-tricorder/)

The quest to create a [tricorder](http://www.engadget.com/tag/tricorder/) began many years ago, when such a device was but a figment of Gene Roddenberry's vivid imagination. However, his vision has crept ever closer to reality in recent years, with many researchers crafting devices capable of gathering human health data and the creation of an [X Prize competition](http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/13/x-prize-reveals-plans-for-tricorder-competition-suspiciously-la/) to spur further tricorder development.

Scanadu is a company that's answered the X Prize bell and is aiming to bring just such a device to market by late next year for a mere $150. Called Scout, the tricorder is roughly two inches square and a half an inch thick and packs a rechargeable battery, IR , EEG and EKG scanners, plus an accelerometer, Bluetooth radio and a micro-USB port. That hardware, when combined with Scout's companion smartphone app can track a person's heart rate, breathing rate, body temperature, pulse transit (essentially systolic blood pressure) and blood oxygenation.

To gather that data, users first must download the free Scout app and pair the tricorder hardware with their Android, iOS or BB7 handset via Bluetooth. Then it's simply a matter of pinching the device between their thumb and finger and holding it against their temple for ten seconds while the app takes the necessary readings. From there, the app can track your data over the long haul and provide an accurate picture of your health. We had a chance to see functional and production Scout prototypes and to speak with Scanadu CEO Walter De Brouwer and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Alan Greene about Scout's development, so join us after the break for more.

Vimeo revamps iOS app with new design, improved social sharing features

[![Vimeo revamps iOS app with new design, improved social sharing features](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/vimeoios1128.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/29/vimeo-ios-app-update/)

It's been nearly a year since Vimeo proudly went [universal on iOS](http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/vimeo-updates-ios-app-releases-android-and-wind/), and today the video service has rolled out its application's third major installment. Inside version 3.0, the iOS folk will find a redesigned app with a brand new "tab-based" design and a novel Feed video browser. That's not all, however, as Vimeo's also added the ability to natively share to both Twitter and Facebook, the option to manage vids on the Watch Later queue and a trait which lets users take advantage of background uploads. While most of today's release is filled with an array of video-friendly goods, some iOS users will be disappointed to hear that this new version nixes the [editor feature](http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/30/vimeos-gratis-ios-video-editing-app-punks-imovie-in-its-own-hou/) -- however, according to [Vimeo](http://www.engadget.com/tag/vimeo/), "active" projects can still be downloaded and saved to the Camera Roll app. Those of you interested in checking it out can hit the link below to grab the updated app.

CyanogenMod 10.1 nightlies now available for Nexus 4

[![CyanogenMod 101 nightlies now available for Nexus 4](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/cm10.1n4.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/29/cyanogenmod-10-1-nightlies-now-available-for-nexus-4/)

At this point in time, ownership of Google's much sought-after [Nexus 4](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/02/nexus-4-review/) is still the pride of few, with most eager users [stuck in delivery and ordering limbo](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/psa-nexus-4-available-on-google-play-at-3pm-et/). But for those of you who _do_ lay claim to that unassuming slab of [LG design](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/12/lg-sera-park-optimus/), [CyanogenMod's](http://www.engadget.com/tag/cyanogenmod/) ready and willing to share some nightly perks. Released as a response to unofficial third party ROMs, experimental (read: unstable) builds of CM10.1 (built upon Android 4.2) are now available on the outfit's site. For now, these nightlies will be Nexus 4-only, but there are plans to open'em up to Nexus 10 owners soon. There's no word on when that final, polished 10.1 build will be ready for all Android devices, so for now, the keys to CM10.1 belong to a small group of privileged folks.

RIM renames App World to BlackBerry World, opens registration for $10k developer guarantee

[![RIM renames App World to BlackBerry World, opens registration for $10k developer guarantee](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/11/bb10-napkin.jpg) ](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/28/rim-bb-jam-asia-blacberry-world-developer-guarantee/)

There's no question that RIM knows how key attracting as much developer support as possible will be to its upcoming [BlackBerry 10](http://www.engadget.com/tag/blackberry10/) platform, and that's where its focus seems to be at the BlackBerry Jam Asia event in Bangkok. _CrackBerry_'s live blog notes that RIM has announced a new name for its store, going from [BlackBerry App World](http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/01/blackberry-app-world-now-live-available-to-download/) to just BlackBerry World (likely [due to its dedicated sections for music, movies and TV shows](http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/25/blackberry-app-world-to-sell-music-movies-and-tv-shows-in-addit/)) as well as a number of regional partners pledging support for the platform like Baidu, Kantana and Fox Sports. Another feature shown off at the event was the ability of its keyboard handle multiple languages and prediction within a single conversation. It also celebrated the success of a [recent port-a-thon event](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/10/rim-plans-36-hour-event-giving-away-cash-playbooks-to-game-developers/), continuing to tout the ease with which devs can bring their projects from iOS and Android to BlackBerry 10. The developer SDK gold release is scheduled for December 11th with all the APIs necessary, and developers can register for that [$10,000 Built For BlackBerry incentive guarantee](http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/01/rim-offers-developers-incentive-certified-apps/) starting today ahead of the January 21st deadline. Counting 60 million active BBM customers in Asia and claiming it's both the largest and fastest growing segment there we expect to see continued focus from RIM there, as of now we're [only a couple months away](http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/12/blackberry-10-launch-event/) from finding out how the world reacts to BlackBerry 10.
